HISTORY OF THE

FIRST PENTECOSTAL CHURCH OF CORINTH

  1926……………………Enroute to California, the Lord speaks to                                          Bro. A. D. Gurley to turn around and go to Corinth.

 June 1926…………… The first tent revival; Corinth church organized as                            The People’s Tabernacle.

 1934………………….  Tent revival with 168 baptized in water in the                                 name of Jesus

 1947………………….  Bro. R. Gordon Jackson becomes the pastor after Bro. Gurley leaves to serve as District Superintendent.

 1948………………….  Brother Gurley returns to serve as pastor

 1951………………….  The original church building located on Tate Street                            is destroyed by fire.

 1953………………….  New church building at Cruise & Proper Streets is                           completed

 1972………………….  Brother Gurley retires and M.D. Padfield, Jr. is                              named pastor

 1973………………….  Brother Harold Jaco is named pastor

 1974………………….  Sister Gurley goes to meet the Lord

 1975………………….  Brother Cecil Bennett is named pastor

 1976………………….  Brother Gurley goes to meet the Lord

 1983………………….  After Brother Bennett’s retirement, Nelson Hight is                            named pastor

 1994………………….  Christian Life Learning Center is formed

 1996………………….  Groundbreaking for property on Highway 72
